Action required: Update PostSharp before updating Visual Studio 2022 to v17.2

We want to notify you that PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio break the debugging experience after updating Visual Studio 2022 to version 17.2. When the debugger starts, the Visual Studio gets unresponsive and has to be killed. The solution is to update PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio to version 6.10.9 or newer.

Who is affected?

This problem affects users of PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio versions older than 6.10.9 updating Visual Studio 2022 to version 17.2.

What will happen?

Immediately after starting a debugging session – either by starting a project with debugging or by attaching the debugger to a running process – Visual Studio becomes unresponsive and has to be killed.

What can you do?

To resolve this you need to update PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio to version 6.10.9 or newer. You can download the tool at https://www.postsharp.net/download.

There’s no need to update the PostSharp NuGet packages, because this bug has only been present in the PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio. Therefore, you do not need a current maintenance subscription to update PostSharp Tools for Visual Studio.
